Boston Celtics Sold for $6.1 Billion

A group led by Bill Chisholm, the managing partner of Symphony Technology Group, has agreed to purchase the Boston Celtics from the Grousbeck family for a valuation of $6.1 billion.

This deal, reported on March 20, 2025, marks the largest sale for a sports franchise in North American history, surpassing the previous record set by the $6.05 billion sale of the NFL’s Washington Commanders in 2023.

The sale is part of a two-phase process, with the Grousbeck family planning to sell a majority stake now and the remaining shares by 2028, during which time Wyc Grousbeck is expected to remain the team’s governor.
