Brandon Figueroa-Tomoki Kameda Canceled After Figueroa Falls Ill Following Weight Miss
Brandon Figueroa’s difficult weekend in Las Vegas took another turn Saturday when his scheduled fight with Tomoki Kameda was canceled after Figueroa became ill. The bout had been set for the Sebastian Fundora-Ermal Hadribeaj card at The Cosmopolitan, but Figueroa was unable to compete after reportedly becoming sick following Friday’s troubled weight cut.
The cancellation came one day after Figueroa weighed 127.4 pounds, 1.4 pounds above the featherweight championship limit, costing him the WBA title before he could make his first defense. Kameda made weight at 125.8 and would have been the only fighter eligible to win the vacant championship Saturday. Instead, the former two-division champion loses that opportunity entirely because the fight will not take place.
Figueroa’s immediate priority is now his health, while the WBA must determine what comes next for its vacant featherweight belt. The sequence is especially costly for both fighters: Figueroa leaves the weekend without his championship and without a fight, while Kameda completed his preparation and weight cut but never received his title opportunity. Any rescheduling would require a new agreement and clarity on whether Figueroa intends to remain at 126 pounds after failing to make the limit.
