Las Vegas Nevada- After the dust clears out and the dry heat from the desert continues to shine on the T-Mobile Arena, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez becomes world champion again. Alvarez finally silences the critics as he defeated Gennady Golovkin to become the new WBC, WBA, IBO, and Ring Magazin champion. The judges gave Alvarez the majority decision as they scored the fight ( 115-113)(114-114)(115-113). Alvarez came to fight from the get-go as he promises not to move and come forward. Golovkin seemed to be confused and struggle as Alvarez made him fight off his back foot. The first fight between Alvarez and Golovkin, Team Golovkin blame Alvarez for running and not fighting like a true Mexican warrior. Golovkin was able to land jabs but never had much power behind it. Alvarez continued to walk down Golovking and attack his body. Golovking seemed to be bothered from Alvarez body attack and kept his elbow down to protect himself. Both fighters fought hard but Canelo landed the more solid and accurate punches.
“He was the one who was backing up. I feel satisfied because I gave a great fight. It was a clear victory.” Alvarez said after the fight.
Golovkin left the ring disappointed and did not talk to HBO after the fight. He later said that he would love a rematch but he will rest for the remainder of the year. As for Alvarez, he wants to fight again in December and David Lemieux seem to be the runner-up after defeating Gary O’Sullivan. Golovking might get his rematch but he most likely has to wait till May of next year.
