Cooper Flagg Exits Mavericks Win After Hard Foul Injures Left Shoulder

Dallas Mavericks star Cooper Flagg left Friday night’s 121-105 win over the Indiana Pacers with left shoulder soreness after a hard second-quarter foul sent him crashing to the floor. Flagg was attacking in transition when Indiana wing Aaron Nesmith made contact on what appeared headed for a breakaway dunk. Officials upgraded the play to a flagrant foul, and Flagg eventually went to the locker room before being ruled out for the second half.

Flagg had already produced 14 points, five rebounds and six assists in just 17 minutes before the injury. Dallas still controlled the game behind Kyrie Irving’s 24 points, earning its first victory of the season while spoiling Tyrese Haliburton’s home return for Indiana. The Mavericks led from start to finish, but the result was overshadowed by uncertainty surrounding their reigning Rookie of the Year.

The important distinction this morning is that Dallas has announced shoulder soreness, not a more serious diagnosis. There is no confirmed timetable yet, so speculation about structural damage would be premature. Flagg is one of the Mavericks’ central pieces after averaging 21.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists last season. Dallas’ next medical update will matter far more than the frightening replay itself. Until then, the Mavericks can celebrate the win while waiting to learn whether Friday’s hard fall will cost their young star additional time.
