Danny Garcia Ends Retirement for Ruslan Provodnikov Exhibition November 7 in Miami
Danny Garcia is stepping back into the ring less than a year after announcing his retirement, and his opponent is a name boxing fans once wanted to see him face in his prime. Garcia and former WBO junior welterweight champion Ruslan Provodnikov will meet in an eight-round exhibition on November 7 at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Florida. Banner Promotions and Indistry Media announced the matchup, which will headline the “Rumble in Miami” event.
The pairing carries a strong nostalgia angle because Garcia and Provodnikov were major players around the 140-pound division during the same era but never fought. Garcia, a former two-division world champion, retired after stopping Daniel Gonzalez in October 2025. Provodnikov has been away much longer: the “Siberian Rocky” last competed professionally in June 2016, when he lost a decision to John Molina Jr. The Russian action fighter had also been linked to a Manny Pacquiao exhibition earlier this year that never materialized.
Because this is an exhibition, it should not be framed as Garcia launching another championship run. The attraction is seeing two recognizable former champions finally share a ring more than a decade after the matchup would have carried major title implications. Jose Zepeda against former WBA junior lightweight champion Alberto Machado is scheduled as the co-main event.
