Five-Star Darius Wabbington Chooses Indiana, Delivering Darian DeVries a Major 2027 Recruiting Win
Darius Wabbington has made his choice. The five-star center from Sunnyslope High School in Phoenix committed to Indiana on Tuesday, selecting the Hoosiers over finalists Arizona and Illinois. The decision gives coach Darian DeVries one of his biggest recruiting victories since taking over in Bloomington and turns Monday’s three-school decision watch into a major addition for Indiana’s 2027 class.
Wabbington is ranked among the nation’s top 15 prospects and as one of the top centers in the 2027 cycle. At roughly 6-foot-11 and 255 pounds, he brings more than traditional interior size. His passing, ball handling and developing perimeter shot make him a modern offensive big who can create advantages from several areas of the floor. He joins a growing Indiana class that already includes other highly regarded prospects.
The recruiting context makes the commitment even more significant. Wabbington is a Phoenix standout who chose Indiana over his home-state Arizona program, while Illinois also made his final cut. Indiana’s staff stayed aggressive through the final stages and converted that pursuit into a centerpiece commitment. For DeVries, landing an elite national big man gives the Hoosiers both immediate recruiting momentum and a potential foundational player for the 2027-28 roster.
