DAZN Reportedly Acquiring Controlling Interest in The Ring From Turki Alalshikh

One of boxing’s most recognizable media brands could soon have a new controlling owner. Multiple reports Thursday say DAZN is acquiring a controlling interest in The Ring from Turki Alalshikh, who purchased the historic publication from Oscar De La Hoya in late 2024. Neither DAZN nor Alalshikh’s representatives have publicly confirmed completion of the transaction, so the deal should still be treated as reported rather than formally announced.

The potential sale matters far beyond ownership of a magazine. The Ring operates influential divisional and pound-for-pound rankings, awards its own championship belts and has expanded into branded boxing events. DAZN, meanwhile, is one of the sport’s largest broadcasters and carries fights involving many of the fighters and promoters The Ring covers. That creates an obvious question about how editorial decisions, rankings and championship recognition would remain independent from DAZN’s commercial boxing interests. There is currently no evidence that DAZN intends to interfere with those processes.

Alalshikh’s ownership lasted less than two years, but dramatically expanded The Ring’s visibility within major boxing events. If the reported transaction is completed, the next issue isn’t simply who owns “The Bible of Boxing.” It’s whether one of boxing’s most influential broadcasters can also control one of the sport’s most influential independent brands without blurring the line between coverage and commerce.
