PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, U.S.A. – On Saturday night, November 5, 2016, twenty-eight year old professional boxer Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (Providence, Rhode Island/Pro record: 23-0-0, with 16 KOs) plans to win his second world title at the MBS Arena in Potsdam, Germany against WBA World Super Welterweight Champion, Jack “Golden Jack” Culcay (Germany by way of Ecuador/ pro record: 22-1-0, with 11 KOs). Andrade-Culcay is scheduled for twelve rounds on the fight card promoted by Sauerland Events, with television to be determined. Andrade is a former WBO world champion in the light middleweight division. He last fought on June 11, 2016, when he defeated Willie Nelson by TKO on SHOWTIME.
Andrade discussed his matchup with Jack Culcay. He said, “I signed my contract to fight Jack Culcay and I’m very excited to get back into the ring on November 5. The WBA was very helpful to assist in making this fight. Now all we’re waiting for is for Culcay’s side to sign his contract. In 2007, I fought Culcay as an amateur, so we have some history in the ring. He advanced far in the amateur ranks, so he definitely has the skill-set to present a challenge for me. He’s probably looking for revenge and I’m looking to keep my winning streak going. The business in the sport of boxing is tough, and for him to be a world champion and have 22 pro wins is impressive. My plan is to come to Germany and put on a great performance. I’m not afraid to take my talent any where in the world. In 2013, I travelled to Stuttgart, Germany, for a training camp. I did some sightseeing and it was a beautiful country. I’m looking forward to going back. It is important that all fighters stay busy in the ring, including myself. The fight with Jack Culcay was presented to me, and I’m taking it because I haven’t fought since June and I want to stay busy. I expect to win this belt and then make moves to unify the other belts in the 154 lb division. I want to thank Sauerland Events and Jack Culcay for giving me this opportunity to fight. I also want to thank Big 6 Academy, The A-Team, SNAC, Banner Promotions, Star Boxing, Matrix Aerospace and Matrix Arms. I’d like to also thank Alex Rivera and his boxers for giving me some great sparring for this fight.”
Team Andrade boxing trainer Paul Andrade said, “Jack Culcay proved himself to be a worthy opponent by winning the WBA title belt. He will try to put his best foot forward and do the best he can, which will be the sign of a true champion. I am sure he is working very hard and having the best training camp of his life. We are working just as hard to secure our victory. We fought Culcay previously in the world championships, and we were victorious in that bout. I’m sure he is glad to have the opportunity to redeem his previous loss to Demetrius, but we will not make it easy for him. We understand that we may be facing an uphill battle by fighting on a champion’s home turf. Culcay has fought many formidable opponents and he has proven to be a very good fighter. Demetrius has signed his WBA contract and we submitted it back to the WBA. We are waiting for Culcay to sign his contract. We’ve had a solid camp and we are ready to go. Culcay deserves a lot of praise, because he seems to be willing to do what other fighters are afraid to do, and that is to fight Demetrius Andrade.”
