Devin Haney-Shakur Stevenson Talks Reignite — Rehydration Clause Remains the Roadblock

Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson have put one of boxing’s biggest potential American matchups back into the conversation. Haney posted a promotional faceoff with Stevenson on Instagram on October 4, and Stevenson quickly responded on X with “Let’s go!” But the exchange also revealed that the fight is not signed and that one familiar issue remains unresolved: Stevenson’s requested rehydration clause.

Haney publicly told Stevenson to drop the clause, making clear that the sides still have business to settle before fans should treat the matchup as anything close to official. The weight discussion has followed this fight for months. Stevenson previously discussed meeting Haney at a 144-pound catchweight or moving to the full 147-pound welterweight limit with restrictions on how much Haney could regain after the weigh-in. Haney, the WBO welterweight champion, wants the fight without that restriction.

The fresh development is not simply another callout. Both unbeaten champions directly reignited the matchup, while Haney identified the specific contractual condition he says is preventing completion. Stevenson has also recently been pursuing a 140-pound unification with Gary Antuanne Russell, so there are competing options. For now, Haney-Stevenson is alive again—but until the rehydration issue is resolved and contracts are signed, it remains a major fight in negotiation rather than a done deal.
