Did Draymond Cross the Line? NBA Reacts to Betting Remark

Draymond Green was fined $50,000 by the NBA for making a comment that questioned the integrity of game officials during Game 3 of the Western Conference Semifinals between the Golden State Warriors and the Minnesota Timberwolves. After fouling out late in the game, Green was caught on camera saying, “5.5. I know what y’all doing,” referencing the 5.5-point spread favoring Minnesota. The Warriors ultimately lost 102–97, covering the spread with a late three-pointer by Jonathan Kuminga.

The NBA interpreted Green’s remark as an inappropriate comment that questioned the integrity of the officials. The league maintains strict policies against any implication that referees are influenced by gambling interests, especially given the NBA’s partnerships with sports betting companies.

Green did not speak to the media after Game 3 but apologized during the Game 4 postgame press conference, expressing regret for his actions and acknowledging his frustration.

This incident adds to Green’s history of on-court controversies. He has received a league-high five technical fouls this postseason and would face a one-game suspension if he accumulates seven.

The Warriors, trailing 3–1 in the series and missing star player Stephen Curry due to a hamstring injury, face elimination in Game 5.
