Gabby Williams Leads Valkyries Past Dream in Game 4, Ties WNBA Finals 2-2
Gabby Williams helped the Golden State Valkyries answer their worst loss of the WNBA Finals with a 67-62 victory over the Atlanta Dream on Saturday, evening the best-of-seven championship series at 2-2. Williams led Golden State with 17 points, while Tiffany Hayes added 13 as the Valkyries built a 16-point first-half lead and survived Atlanta’s late comeback attempt at State Farm Arena.
The game turned into a defensive fight. Atlanta managed only 62 points after scoring 97 in its Game 3 victory, and Angel Reese was held to eight points. Rhyne Howard led the Dream with 19, including 11 in the fourth quarter, as Atlanta cut the deficit to one possession late. Golden State never surrendered the lead, however, and reclaimed home-court advantage after splitting the two games in Atlanta.
The result resets the Finals. Instead of Atlanta returning to San Francisco with a chance to move within one win of the championship, the series is effectively a best-of-three beginning Monday at Chase Center. Golden State has now shown it can win two very different ways in this series: Williams carried the offense with 26 points in Game 1, while Game 4 was about collectively grinding through a low-scoring afternoon. The pressure now shifts back to Atlanta to find its Game 3 offense again.
