Brooklyn New York– Gennady Golovkin Knockout streak is over after winning a twelve round controversial unanimous decision over Danny Jacobs at a sold-out Barclay Center in Brooklyn N.Y. Golovkin was the favorite coming into the fight after having 23 consecutive wins by knock-out. All three judges had Golovkin winning the fight (114-113) (115-112) (115-112) to earn him a unanimous decision win over Jacobs.
The first three rounds were the battle of the nerves, but Jacobs got the best out of Golovkin. Jacobs movement and bodywork allowed him to control the rhythm of the first three rounds. Golovkin scored a knockdown in the fourth after Jacobs switch to the southpaw stance. Jacobs was able to survive the knockdown and Golovkin’s onslaught attack after the count. During the middle rounds of the fight, Jacobs continue to use the southpaw stance that brought confusion to Golovkin attack. Golovkin continued to try to cut off the ring and had successes landing several jabs. The fight went the distance with many close rounds, but Golovkin got the unanimous decision nod.
Golovkin improves to (37-0, 33 KOs) and Jacobs record drops (32-2, 29 KOs). After this close win over Jacobs, Golovkin awaits the winner of the Saul “Canelo Alvarez Julio Cesar Chavez fight in May.
