Jermall Charlo Injured, October 17 Comeback Canceled as Jose Armando Resendiz Steps In

Jermall Charlo’s latest comeback attempt has hit another setback. Charlo has withdrawn from his scheduled October 17 fight against Koen Mazoudier after suffering an injury during training camp, with former WBA titleholder Jose Armando Resendiz stepping in to face Mazoudier on the Sebastian Fundora-Ermal Hadribeaj card in Las Vegas.

The withdrawal is particularly frustrating for Charlo because this is the second time the matchup with Mazoudier has fallen apart in a matter of months. Their previous meeting in Australia was lost when Charlo was unable to secure a visa. The October date was supposed to provide another opportunity for the Houston fighter to build momentum after years of limited activity, but the injury once again leaves his immediate schedule uncertain.

Resendiz now receives a significant short-notice opportunity. He is coming off a loss to Jaime Munguia after previously scoring the biggest victory of his career against Caleb Plant. For Charlo, however, the focus shifts back to recovery and determining when he can return, delaying another planned step toward the major fights he has been targeting.
