Joe Cordina Agrees Terms to Face Manny Pacquiao on Fury-Joshua Undercard
Joe Cordina has agreed terms for a proposed fight with Manny Pacquiao on the Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua undercard, moving the intriguing matchup another step closer to reality. Eddie Hearn confirmed that Cordina has accepted his side of the deal, but the Matchroom chairman also cautioned that he still does not know whether the fight will ultimately be finalized.
The development is more significant than the earlier speculation linking Cordina to Pacquiao because the former two-time IBF super featherweight champion has now agreed to the proposed terms. Cordina, 34, was cleared of an assault charge in Cardiff earlier this week and immediately indicated that his focus was returning to boxing. A Pacquiao fight in Cardiff would give the Welshman by far the biggest commercial opportunity of his career.
There is still an important distinction for fans: Pacquiao-Cordina is not an officially announced fight. No final agreement from all sides has been confirmed, and the event organizers have not formally added the bout to the Fury-Joshua card. If those final hurdles are cleared, however, Pacquiao’s appearance against a Welsh former world champion would add another major attraction to an already enormous event.
