Keyshawn Davis Stripped of WBO Title After Weighing 4.3lbs Over Limit

In a shocking turn of events ahead of Saturday night’s highly anticipated lightweight title clash, Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis (13-0, 9 KOs) has officially been stripped of his WBO lightweight world title. Davis came in at 139.3 lbs—4.3 pounds over the 135-lb limit—during Friday’s weigh-in, making him ineligible to defend or retain the belt.

The bout will still proceed, but only his opponent, Edwin De Los Santos (16-2, 14 KOs), who successfully weighed in at 134.7 lbs, is now eligible to win the WBO title. If Davis wins, the title will remain vacant.

This was slated to be Davis’s first title defense after capturing the vacant belt earlier this year. Missing weight by such a significant margin not only results in the forfeiture of his title but could raise questions about his discipline and future at the 135-lb division.

The Norfolk crowd will still get their hometown hero in action at Scope Arena, but with the belt no longer on the line for Davis, the stakes shift dramatically.
