Knicks Waive Drew Eubanks After Torn Pectoral as Final Roster Battle Narrows

The New York Knicks’ final roster decisions took a painful turn Thursday when veteran center Drew Eubanks was waived after suffering a torn pectoral muscle. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that the injury will sideline Eubanks for an extended period. New York also waived center Tony Bradley and wing Ochai Agbaji as the defending champions moved closer to their opening-night roster.

Eubanks had been competing for a reserve-center role after joining New York on a non-guaranteed training-camp deal. He appeared in three preseason games and scored eight points in 15 minutes against Toronto on Tuesday. His injury ends that roster bid abruptly. Bradley’s release further clears the frontcourt competition, while Agbaji’s departure trims another veteran from the perimeter group.

The biggest beneficiary could be James Wiseman. The former No. 2 overall pick had already strengthened his case with 18 points and 10 rebounds against Toronto, and the Knicks now have fewer alternatives behind Karl-Anthony Towns and Andre Drummond. New York’s second-apron constraints mean every roster spot carries added financial weight, so the club may not simply keep every viable veteran. Thursday’s cuts therefore do more than remove three names: they leave Wiseman in a dramatically stronger position to complete his latest NBA comeback attempt.
