Leo Santa Cruz and Abner Mares Pick Up Wins, Now Time for Rematch

Leo “El Terremoto” Santa Cruz (34-1-1, 19 KOs) returned with an
eighth-round stoppage over Chris Avalos (27-6, 20 KOs). These two traded
blows back and forth but it was Cruz who was more precise in his shots and
the faster of the two. Eventually, the end came in the 8th round with a
series of punches and the referee Thomas Taylor thought it was too much.

Abner Mares (31-2-1, 15 KOs) was victorious as he won a technical decision
over Andres Gutierrez (35-2-1, 25 KOs). Mares landed a big punch earlier in
the fight they produced a cut over Gutierrez’s eye. Abner was beating
Andres all night with blistering combinations. The fight was stopped as the
cut was caused by a punch, but the cut was damaged by unintentional fouls
throughout the fight as they went to the scorecards. The judges scored the
bout 100-90, 99-91, and 99-91.
