Top-10 Recruit Micah Ojo Commits to North Carolina
North Carolina landed one of the biggest commitments in the 2027 women’s basketball recruiting class Thursday when Micah Ojo announced she is joining the Tar Heels. ESPN ranks Ojo as the No. 6 prospect in the 2027 SC Next 100, making the commitment a significant early recruiting victory for UNC.
Ojo publicly announced that she was “100% committed” after recently taking an official visit to Chapel Hill. Her recruitment also included an official visit to Vanderbilt, but North Carolina ultimately secured a prospect who has already produced on major stages. Ojo has represented USA Basketball and has built a reputation as an athletic, disruptive player capable of affecting games beyond scoring. For the Tar Heels, adding a top-10 national prospect this early gives the staff a centerpiece around which it can continue building the 2027 class.
The commitment is also worth watching beyond the recruiting rankings. Women’s college basketball is increasingly seeing elite prospects arrive with established national profiles before they ever reach campus, and Ojo fits that trend. If UNC can use her commitment to attract another highly ranked player or two, Thursday’s announcement could become the foundation of one of the stronger 2027 classes in the country rather than simply a single recruiting win.
