Olivia Miles Makes It a Clean Sweep: Four Months, Four WNBA Rookie of the Month Awards

Olivia Miles hasn’t let another rookie win a monthly award all season. The Minnesota Lynx guard was named Kia WNBA Rookie of the Month for August on Wednesday, giving her the honor for May, June, July and August—the first four months of her professional career. Miles averaged 20.6 points, 6.5 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals during August, shooting 50.3% from the floor and an impressive 43.9% from three.

Her overall rookie season has moved beyond simply being good for a first-year player. Miles is averaging 19.7 points, 6.0 assists and 4.6 rebounds while shooting nearly 50% overall. On August 30 against Atlanta, she also passed Seimone Augustus for Minnesota’s single-season rookie scoring record. The Lynx reached the World Cup break at 31-9, giving Miles’ individual production championship-level team context.

The most interesting part is the consistency. Rookie seasons usually contain stretches when opponents adjust and production falls off. Four months into Miles’ career, the league has yet to identify another rookie it believes had a better month. Rookie of the Year discussions can wait for the official vote. For now, 4-for-4 speaks loudly enough on its own.
