Suns Lock Up Oso Ighodaro With Three-Year, $29 Million Extension
The Phoenix Suns made a long-term investment in their frontcourt Sunday, agreeing with Oso Ighodaro on a three-year, $29 million contract extension. Phoenix also exercised Ighodaro’s team option for 2027-28, meaning the new extension begins in 2028-29 and keeps the 24-year-old big man under contract through the 2030-31 season.
Ighodaro earned the commitment by becoming one of Phoenix’s most dependable young rotation players. The former Marquette standout appeared in all 82 regular-season games last season, starting 24, and averaged 6.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 22 minutes per game while shooting 65.3 percent from the field. He also started all four of the Suns’ playoff games, averaging 7.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists.
The deal is notable because Ighodaro arrived as the No. 40 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft rather than a lottery prospect. Phoenix is now paying to keep the player he has become: a mobile, efficient big who can screen, pass and defend without needing touches. With Mark Williams dealing with injury issues and Khaman Maluach competing for a larger role, the Suns now have cost certainty around another piece of their center rotation before the 2026-27 season begins.
