UConn women’s basketball landed a major piece of its future Friday, November 6, when five-star guard Sydney Savoury announced her commitment to Geno Auriemma and the Huskies. The 5-foot-11 standout from Belleville, Michigan, is ranked No. 9 nationally in ESPN’s 2027 recruiting class and No. 7 in USA TODAY’s girls basketball composite rankings. She chose UConn over finalists North Carolina, Notre Dame, Texas, UCLA and USC, becoming the program’s first commitment in the 2027 class.
Savoury brings an established résumé as both a scorer and a high-level competitor. She averaged 27 points, seven rebounds and three assists during her previous high school season, helping Belleville finish 25-2. She was named Michigan’s Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year for 2024-25, then earned Nike EYBL circuit MVP recognition after averaging 21.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists. She also represented the United States on the gold-medal-winning team at the 2026 FIBA Under-18 Women’s AmeriCup.
The commitment follows Savoury’s October visit to UConn and her attendance at the Huskies’ game at Michigan on Thursday. It gives Auriemma another gifted perimeter prospect while recruiting for the 2027 class remains active. UConn is still pursuing additional highly ranked players, but Savoury’s decision is a concrete early building block rather than a recruiting rumor or prediction. For fans tracking the next wave of women’s basketball talent, she is a name worth following long before she arrives on campus.
