Tank Davis vs. Lamont Roach II: The Rematch Boxing Fans Demanded

Gervonta “Tank” Davis is preparing for a highly anticipated rematch against Lamont Roach, scheduled for August 16 in Las Vegas. This bout aims to resolve the controversy from their initial encounter on March 1, which ended in a majority draw. The controversy centered around a moment in the ninth round when Davis took a knee after a jab from Roach. Referee Steve Willis did not rule it a knockdown, allowing Davis to receive assistance in his corner without penalty. Had the knockdown been acknowledged, Roach might have secured a victory. An appeal by Roach’s team to overturn the result was dismissed by the New York State Athletic Commission, citing that the referee’s decision was not outcome-determinative.

Beyond this rematch, Davis is reportedly in discussions for a crossover fight against Jake Paul later in the year, contingent on the outcome of his bout with Roach. Jake Paul has expressed interest in this matchup, stating that negotiations are underway for a potential fight in November.

Additionally, Davis has announced plans to fight three times in 2025, aiming to increase his activity compared to previous years. This plan includes the rematch with Roach and potentially two more fights before the year’s end.

However, Davis’s recent performance has led to his removal from The Ring’s pound-for-pound top 10 rankings, following the draw with Roach.
