WNBA Finals Game 7 Draws Record 3.28 Million Viewers as Valkyries’ Title Run Makes History

The Golden State Valkyries’ championship victory over the Atlanta Dream delivered another milestone for the WNBA, this time in television viewership. Audience figures released Tuesday, November 3, show that Saturday’s winner-take-all Game 7 averaged 3.28 million viewers across USA Network, CNBC and Peacock. That makes it the most-watched playoff game in WNBA history, according to Nielsen and streaming measurements reported by USA Sports and independent media analysts.

The figure surpasses the 3.25 million viewers recorded for the deciding 1999 WNBA Finals game between the New York Liberty and Houston Comets. Golden State’s 68-63 victory on October 31 featured a 30-point performance from Finals MVP Gabby Williams and gave the second-year Valkyries their first championship. The seven-game series averaged approximately 1.89 million viewers per game, another Finals high. The audience arrived despite several scheduling adjustments, including a Thursday afternoon Game 6 in Atlanta that still attracted roughly 1.5 million viewers.

For the league, Tuesday’s numbers are more than another championship celebration. They provide evidence that a compelling seven-game series can command a major national audience even without a traditional broadcast-network slot for the deciding game. For Houston basketball fans, the record also connects two generations: the 1999 Liberty-Comets finale previously held the playoff benchmark, and the Comets are preparing to return in 2027. As the WNBA plans its next season, the audience gives teams, sponsors and broadcasters another measure of the league’s expanding reach.
