Albert ‘Chop Chop’ Gonzalez Destroys Edward Vazquez in Two, Calls for World Title Shot

Albert “Chop Chop” Gonzalez turned the biggest test of his young career into a statement Saturday night, stopping former two-time world title challenger Edward Vazquez in the second round at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio. Gonzalez improved to 19-0 with 12 knockouts and retained his NABF featherweight title after a punishing body attack ended the fight at 1:04 of Round 2.

Vazquez entered with the experience advantage and had previously gone rounds with championship-level opponents including Raymond Ford and Rafael Espinoza. Gonzalez never allowed that experience to become a factor. After calmly handling Vazquez’s early aggression, the 24-year-old found his range and attacked downstairs. A damaging body shot hurt Vazquez before Gonzalez poured on combinations and sent him down for the finish. The quick knockout was especially impressive because Vazquez had built a reputation as a durable opponent against elite competition.

Gonzalez immediately made his intentions clear after the victory, saying he is ready for a world-title opportunity. The performance gives that claim considerably more weight. With Rafael Espinoza, Bruce Carrington and Angelo Leo among the major names around the featherweight championship picture, Gonzalez has moved from promising prospect toward legitimate contender. Saturday’s result was not simply another undefeated record-builder; it was the type of emphatic win that can accelerate a young fighter into the world-title conversation.
