Canelo Alvarez Wants His Final Fight at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca

Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez is already thinking about where the final chapter of his boxing career should take place, and his preferred stage is one of Mexico’s most iconic venues. Alvarez says he wants his last professional fight to be in Mexico, ideally at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, and preliminary discussions about the possibility have already taken place.

The idea should not be confused with an official retirement announcement or a booked farewell fight. Canelo has indicated that he believes he still has roughly four or five fights remaining. There is currently no confirmed opponent or date for an Estadio Azteca finale, making this a long-term vision rather than a finalized event.

Before any farewell can take shape, Alvarez has immediate business in the ring. He is scheduled to face unbeaten Christian Mbilli on October 31 in Riyadh. Still, the possibility of Canelo ending his career before a massive Mexican crowd would provide a fitting full-circle moment for the Guadalajara star. If the Azteca plan eventually becomes official, it would immediately become one of boxing’s biggest destination events.
