Omari Jones Blasts Alan Sanchez in Two Rounds in First Professional Main Event
Omari Jones delivered the kind of statement performance he wanted in his first professional main event, stopping veteran Alan Sanchez just 49 seconds into the second round Friday night at Caribe Royale Orlando. The 23-year-old junior middleweight improved to 8-0 with five knockouts after forcing the stoppage with sustained pressure and clean power shots.
Jones, a bronze medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics, controlled the opening round and quickly adjusted when Sanchez fought differently than expected. In the second, Jones drove Sanchez toward the corner with a straight right hand before unloading a combination of hooks and right hands. Referee Christopher Young stepped in to end the scheduled eight-round contest.
The result was particularly significant because Jones had gone the distance in each of his previous three fights. Sanchez entered with considerably more professional experience and fell to 24-8-1. Jones now has a hometown main-event victory on his résumé and said afterward that he hopes to fight once more before the end of 2026 as Matchroom continues moving one of America’s most recognizable young Olympians up the professional ladder.
