Five-Star Darius Wabbington Sets Decision Between Arizona, Illinois and Indiana
One of the biggest remaining decisions in the 2027 recruiting class now has a date. Five-star big man Darius Wabbington is scheduled to announce his college choice Tuesday at 3 p.m. Mountain time, with Arizona, Illinois and Indiana making up his final three. The 6-foot-11 Sunnyslope High School standout is ranked No. 9 nationally in the SC Next 100, while 247Sports lists him as a top-15 prospect and one of the best centers in the class.
Wabbington’s recruitment is especially interesting because each finalist offers a different path. Arizona has the home-state advantage and recently hosted him during its Red-Blue weekend. Indiana has made Wabbington a priority and built a strong relationship with the five-star big man, while Illinois remains in position for a major recruiting win. His combination of size, passing touch, ball-handling and developing perimeter range has made him one of the most skilled frontcourt prospects in the country.
The timing also adds intrigue. Wabbington had previously been considering a broader group of programs, but his recruitment has narrowed quickly heading into Tuesday’s announcement. For whichever program lands him, this is more than adding size to a future roster. Wabbington projects as the kind of versatile modern big who can initiate offense, create for teammates and stretch a defense—skills that could make him an immediate college impact player and a long-term NBA prospect.
