DAZN Reportedly Moving to Buy Controlling Interest in The Ring Magazine
One of boxing’s most recognizable media brands could soon have a new controlling owner. Multiple reports say DAZN is moving to acquire a controlling interest in The Ring from Turki Alalshikh, less than two years after Alalshikh purchased the historic magazine from Oscar De La Hoya. BoxingScene reported that three boxing officials confirmed the planned transaction, while earlier reporting said an agreement had already been reached. DAZN, however, has not publicly confirmed that the deal has closed.
The potential sale matters well beyond a magazine ownership change. DAZN is already one of boxing’s dominant broadcasters, carrying events from several major promoters and expanding its footprint throughout the sport. The Ring, meanwhile, operates not only as a publication but also maintains influential rankings and awards championship belts. If DAZN takes control, the central question will be how the publication protects the independence of its journalism and rankings when its owner also has direct commercial relationships with fighters, promoters and events it covers.
Alalshikh bought The Ring in late 2024 and pledged to preserve its editorial independence. A DAZN takeover would mark another major shift for the publication in less than two years and further consolidate boxing content, broadcasting and media under one corporate umbrella. Until the parties formally announce the transaction, it should be described as a reported controlling-interest deal rather than a completed sale.
