Floyd Mayweather Announces Dec. 19 Bangkok Exhibition Against Matt ‘The Jedi’ Floyd
Floyd Mayweather has announced another return to the ring, saying Sunday that he will face Australian boxer Matt “The Jedi” Floyd in an exhibition on Dec. 19 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The 49-year-old Mayweather revealed the matchup on social media and immediately tied it to the much-discussed Ryan Garcia fight, calling the Bangkok exhibition “a lil tune up before me and Ryan Garcia lock up.” Mayweather has not boxed since his August 2024 exhibition rematch with John Gotti III. Matt Floyd, 37, compiled a 15-2 professional boxing record and has also competed in bare-knuckle and crossover events, including a 2025 loss to former world champion James DeGale.
The announcement gives Mayweather a date and opponent, but questions remain. A previously announced June exhibition with Mike Zambidis was stopped amid litigation involving CSI Entertainment, which claims contractual rights to Mayweather’s next fights. And despite Mayweather’s reference to Garcia, a sanctioned Mayweather-Garcia title fight is not yet official. Garcia has said he intends to fight Feb. 6 regardless, while separate reports have linked him to a possible Teofimo Lopez unification. For now, the concrete news is Mayweather-Floyd on Dec. 19 — with the Garcia showdown still something to watch rather than treat as signed.
