Jalen Duren Ends Pistons Standoff, Agrees to 5-Year, $200 Million Deal

The Detroit Pistons’ biggest unresolved offseason question is finally settled. Jalen Duren has agreed to a reported five-year, $200 million fully guaranteed contract with Detroit, ending a months-long restricted free agency standoff just as the 22-year-old center faced a deadline on his one-year qualifying offer. Multiple reports said Duren ultimately accepted the standing long-term proposal after Detroit had made offers ranging from $170 million to $190 million earlier in the summer.

The deal brings a first-time All-Star back to a Pistons team that opened training camp without him. Duren averaged a career-best 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds last season and earned All-NBA recognition as Detroit won 60 games and claimed the Eastern Conference’s top seed. His postseason production fell sharply, however, with his scoring dropping to 10.2 points per game, helping create some of the tension surrounding the negotiations.

For Detroit, the larger story is continuity. The Pistons already committed long-term money to their young core, and Duren now remains a central piece rather than entering the season on a short-term deal that could have reopened his future next summer. With the contract question resolved, the focus shifts back to basketball—and whether Duren’s regular-season leap can translate into a stronger postseason run.
