Four-Star Guard Lucai Anderson Commits to Michigan, Gives Mike Boynton First 2027 Pledge

Michigan landed its first high school commitment of the Mike Boynton Jr. era Wednesday when four-star 2027 guard Lucai Anderson committed to the Wolverines. The 6-foot-5 IMG Academy prospect is ranked No. 84 nationally in the 247Sports Composite and No. 90 in the Rivals Industry Ranking. Anderson chose Michigan after taking visits to programs including USC, Georgia Tech and UCF, giving the defending national champions an important first building block for their 2027 class.

Anderson brings an intriguing international résumé to Ann Arbor. He represents Germany and averaged 15.0 points, 4.9 assists and 3.0 rebounds at the 2026 FIBA U18 EuroBasket. His size, developing playmaking and perimeter versatility give Boynton a prospect who can grow into multiple backcourt roles. Anderson told 247Sports that his goal at Michigan is to improve, help win and prepare himself for the NBA.

There is also a notable family connection. Anderson’s older brother, Christian, once committed to Michigan before eventually starring at Texas Tech and becoming a first-round NBA draft pick. Lucai now arrives under an entirely different Michigan coaching staff, making the commitment less about family history than Boynton’s ability to sell his own vision. For a new head coach trying to establish recruiting momentum, landing a consensus four-star guard from IMG Academy is a meaningful first step.
