Tim Tszyu to Challenge Erislandy Lara for WBA Middleweight Title in Australia

Tim Tszyu is officially getting another world-title opportunity. No Limit Boxing announced Monday night U.S. time that Tszyu will challenge veteran WBA middleweight champion Erislandy Lara in Australia, turning a matchup that had been discussed for weeks into a confirmed fight. The promoter has not yet announced the exact date, host city, venue or broadcaster, with those details expected to follow.

Tszyu, 31, is chasing a championship in a second weight class after previously holding the WBO super welterweight title. His move to middleweight gained momentum with a unanimous-decision victory over Errol Spence Jr. in Sydney in July. Lara presents a very different test. The 43-year-old Cuban southpaw has held a version of the WBA middleweight championship since 2021 and remains one of boxing’s most experienced and difficult technicians.

The useful distinction for fans is that Lara-Tszyu is no longer simply a proposed December matchup. No Limit has now publicly confirmed the title fight itself, even though the event details remain unfinished. A win would give Tszyu a second divisional world championship and another major victory on home soil; for Lara, beating a younger, high-profile challenger in Australia would extend one of boxing’s most remarkable late-career championship runs.
