Timberwolves Extend Jaden McDaniels With One-Year, $40 Million Deal

The Minnesota Timberwolves locked up another piece of their core Tuesday, signing Jaden McDaniels to a one-year, $40 million contract extension. The deal adds the 2029-30 season to McDaniels’ existing contract and keeps the 26-year-old forward in Minnesota as the Timberwolves prepare to open the regular season this week.

McDaniels earned the extra commitment with the best offensive season of his career. He averaged career highs of 14.8 points and 2.7 assists last season while adding 4.2 rebounds per game and shooting 41.2 percent from three-point range across 73 starts. His value still begins on the other end, where his length and versatility allow Minnesota to use him against many of the league’s toughest perimeter scorers.

The structure gives both sides flexibility. McDaniels secures another $40 million in guaranteed salary, while Minnesota avoids a longer commitment that could become more restrictive as its expensive core evolves. The extension also reinforces how strongly the Timberwolves value continuity around their stars: McDaniels has spent his entire NBA career with Minnesota since arriving in the 2020 draft. If his improved shooting holds, the deal protects a premium two-way wing through his prime without forcing the Wolves to make a bigger long-term decision today.
