Five-Star Xavier Young Commits to LSU, Reclassifies Into Loaded 2027 Class

LSU continued its recruiting surge Saturday when five-star center Xavier Young committed to the Tigers and announced that he will reclassify from 2028 into the 2027 class. The 6-foot-10 Texas prospect chose LSU after also taking official visits to Maryland, Michigan and Tennessee. Before reclassifying, Young was ranked No. 11 overall and No. 4 among centers in the 247Sports Composite for 2028.

The decision gives Will Wade another major building block only days after LSU landed five-star Houston point guard Reese Alston. Young told 247Sports that the trust LSU’s staff showed him despite his age separated the Tigers, and he views the move to college a year earlier as an opportunity to accelerate his development against bigger and stronger competition. His size, interior presence and developing perimeter game give LSU a high-upside frontcourt prospect with legitimate NBA potential.

Young joins Alston, King Gibson and Ahmad Hudson in a 2027 LSU class already loaded with high-end talent. The commitment is especially notable for LSU’s growing recruiting reach in Texas: Young plays at Faith Family Academy of Oak Cliff in the Dallas area, while Alston stars in Houston. Reclassifying adds some developmental risk because Young will arrive younger than most freshmen, but it also gives LSU another elite prospect who believes the program can help prepare him for a future lottery-pick path.
