Neeraj Goyat-Anthony Pettis Set for Jan. 23 Boxing Showdown in India

India’s Neeraj Goyat will face former UFC lightweight champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis in a six-round super welterweight bout on January 23, 2027, giving Goyat a high-profile homecoming against one of combat sports’ most recognizable names. Most Valuable Promotions announced the matchup Wednesday. The event, presented by IPBL Boxing and sanctioned by the Indian Boxing Council, will take place in India, with Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Chennai under consideration and the final city and venue expected to be announced in November.

Goyat enters at 21-4-2 with nine knockouts and has won five straight, including his victory over Whindersson Nunes on the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson card and a decision over Yessin Koulali in August. Pettis is 1-1 as a professional boxer, having beaten Roy Jones Jr. by majority decision in 2023 before losing to Chris Avila in 2024. The former UFC champion says the matchup carries a personal edge after his younger brother Sergio lost a boxing match in India last year.

For Goyat, this is bigger than another crossover fight. MVP’s first international signing now gets a recognizable opponent in front of his home-country audience, giving the promotion an opportunity to test boxing’s commercial reach in one of the world’s largest markets. Pettis brings the name recognition, but Goyat brings far more professional boxing experience. That contrast should be the central storyline when the two meet in January.
