Five-Star Houston PG Reese Alston Commits to LSU Over Kentucky, Louisville
LSU landed another major piece of its 2027 recruiting class Thursday when five-star point guard Reese Alston committed to the Tigers during a live announcement. The 6-foot-2 Second Baptist School standout from Houston chose LSU after a recruitment that included Kentucky, Louisville, Tennessee, Wichita State and other high-major programs. Alston is ranked No. 9 nationally in the 247Sports Composite and is one of the top point guards in the class.
Alston brings both production and a recognizable basketball pedigree. The son of former NBA guard and streetball legend Rafer “Skip 2 My Lou” Alston averaged 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.7 steals as a junior, earning MaxPreps Junior All-American First Team honors. His game is built around burst, creativity, ball handling and open-court playmaking, giving LSU a lead-guard prospect capable of creating his own offense while setting up teammates.
The commitment strengthens an already impressive class for Will Wade. Alston joins guard King Gibson and highly regarded forward Ahmad Hudson, giving LSU three major 2027 building blocks. The Houston connection also matters: Alston is rated the No. 1 prospect in Texas by the 247Sports Composite. Beating a national group of programs for an elite point guard with deep basketball roots gives Wade another recruiting statement as LSU works to restore its national profile.
